Understanding Definition in Your Cosmic Human Design
In the system of Cosmic Human Design, Definition refers to how the nine energy centers in your chart are connected through activated channels. These connections indicate consistent and reliable energy flow within you, shaping how you experience energy and interact with the world.
Where you have consistent access to energy and specific ways of processing it.
These defined areas are "fixed" in your design. Where your energy is open and receptive to the energies of others and the environment.
These undefined or open areas are where you experience the "not-self" and where wisdom can be gained through observation.
The overall energetic integrity and interconnectedness of your being
When two or more of your energy centers are connected by a defined channel (a colored line in your chart), those centers are considered defined.
This means you have reliable and consistent access to the energy and functions associated with those centers.
Definition creates a unique and predictable way your energy flows and manifests.
Centers that are not connected to any other defined center are considered undefined or open. These areas are like energetic sponges, designed to take in and amplify the energy of others and the environment.
While open centers can be sites of conditioning and "not-self" patterns (acting in ways that are not truly you), they are also where you have the potential for profound wisdom through observing how these energies operate in others.
The way your defined centers connect (or don't) creates different types of Definition, each with its own unique characteristics:
All your defined centers are connected in one continuous network.
This creates a strong sense of energetic integrity and a straightforward way of processing energy.
Your defined centers are in two or more separate groups with no direct connection between them.
This can create an internal "gap" that seeks connection with others or external stimuli.
Individuals with Split Definition often benefit from verbalizing their thoughts to bridge this gap.
Your defined centers are in three separate groups.
This indicates a more complex energetic system with multiple internal "gaps" and a strong need for external interaction to feel a sense of wholeness.
Your defined centers are in four separate groups.
This is a very rare configuration indicating a highly independent energetic system with a significant need for external mirroring to understand their own processes.
All nine of your energy centers are undefined.
Reflectors are deeply open to the energies of the world and act as energetic mirrors, reflecting back the health and well-being of their environment and the people around them.
