The Madness of the Not-Self Mind

In the vast system of Human Design, there is a deep understanding of our energetic mechanics. But beyond the definitions and the gates, there is a mystical and essential truth: the mind is the enemy of living your design. It is what Ra Uru Hu called the "howler monkey," constantly making noise to distract you from your own truth.

The not-self mind is a truly insane thing. It is not here to serve you;
it is here to find a reason for everything. It takes the natural shifts in your body’s chemistry and transforms them into a story—a story of blame, fault, or negativity. It creates a narrative that has nothing to do with what is truly happening.

For instance, an individual with an emotional solar plexus has a natural wave of emotion that ebbs and flows. When this wave is in a low period, the not-self mind immediately begins to search for a reason. “Why am I sad? Someone must have done something. This situation is the problem.” In reality, it is simply a change in chemistry—a natural, beautiful, and mutative frequency. The mind, however, cannot accept this. It has to have a reason because its priorities are established by its openness and conditioning.

This is the very essence of transference. A person who is here to be a hoper becomes a fixer. Someone here to be a desirer tries to appear innocent. A fearful person tries to become a fixer. The not-self mind forces them into these roles, making them act in ways that are deeply in conflict with their true nature. They are living a lie, trying to be something they are not, and their very actions are a testament to the fact that their mind is in charge, not their inner authority.

The not-self mind is a trap. It takes you away from everything that truly belongs to you and puts you in the arms of conditioning and superficiality. It is the root of the bitterness, frustration, anger, and disappointment that so many people feel.

Your truth is not to be believed; it is to be experienced. And the only way to experience it is to give your inner authority back to your body, not your mind. Only when you surrender to the vehicle can you finally step out of the miasma of homogenization and truly live your unique life.
